How does dermal filler treatment work?
When injected into the skin, dermal fillers work by plumping up the area, creating structure in loosened or thinning skin to lift folds, and adding volume to areas that have lost elasticity. The hyaluronic acid in the filler attracts and binds water molecules to create a cushioning effect on the skin, giving it ‘bounce’. Anti-wrinkle injections reduce fine lines in expressive areas of the face, so they do not treat loosened skin folds caused through lack of volume, though both treatments are frequently combined by our clients.

Which areas of the face can be treated by dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers can be used to enhance your facial features for a more youthful, beautifying appearance, or to reintroduce structure to ageing skin that may have lost elasticity or volume due to the natural ageing process. For beautifying results, we can add volume and structure to the cheekbones and apples of the cheeks, plump the lips and enhance the borders and cupid’s bow, create a more angular jawline, and enhance the profile of your chin. For restoring lost volume in ageing skin, we can treat nasolabial folds (nose-to-mouth lines), marionette lines (mouth-to-chin lines), tired or sunken eyes, dark circles, loss of volumes in the temples, and much more. Filler is a uniquely versatile treatment, and we are proud to be trained in many advanced applications of it.
Uniquely, filler can also achieve a non-surgical nosejob by, conversely, introducing more structure to the bridge of the nose. By ‘filling in’ small bumps in the bridge of the nose, the perspective of the nose changes to appear straighter, more even, and if desired – reduced in size.

Which filler brands to do you use?
At Pro Aesthetics, we use Juvederm and Harmonica, as they are premium brands.
-
Are dermal fillers painful?
You may feel a scratch at the injection site, though your topical numbing cream will lessen these sensations. It is not necessarily painful, but you may feel some slight discomfort. We use very fine needles to minimise this discomfort and our advanced techniques help to reduce the risks of bruising.
-
When will I see the results of my dermal fillers treatment?
You will notice your dermal filler results immediately after treatment, though you will need to allow 2-3 days for these to settle to your full results. This is because you may experience some swelling, redness, or minor bruising, which is a natural side effect to the treatment. Once these have reduced, your final results will be visible. If you are on a treatment journey with us, it may be that you need multiple treatments to achieve your final desired results.
-
How long do the effects of fillers last?
The length of time a client will see the results of a filler treatment can vary. Some individuals break down the product more quickly than others, as hyaluronic acid is naturally metabolised by the body over time. Generally, the effects of the filler can last anywhere from 6 to 15 months, and further treatment will be necessary to maintain the results after that period of time.
-
Are dermal fillers safe?
Yes, they are safe when performed by medical professionals who are also trained in medical aesthetics. Though it is not illegal currently, they should not be performed by non-medical people.
